Using a Correlation Token

Using a Correlation Token

Do you want to compare your best-performing site with potential areas for a new site, to see how similar they are? The Correlation Token can help you do just this, and help you decide which locations are best for new sites, or where new marketing campaigns could be launched.

The Correlation Token enables you to compare the demographic (Acorn) mix within a base area, to your other area(s). The closer to 1 a comparative area is, the closer it matches the base area.

To set the base area:

Within the Data view, find the schema that contains your base area, then right click and select Open Browse. Here, drivetimes have been used

Select the catchment you wish to use as the base area; the one you want to compare the rest of your areas to

Click on Set Base then select Base 1

You can only use Base 1 with a correlation token, as this is what is used in the expression

CORRELATION({STD_BASE1}(ACNHG.[01:21]HHSGRP),(ACNHG.[01:21]HHSGRP))

A window will pop up confirming the base selection, click Yes

These three store catchments are equally similar to the Maidstone store catchment

The Maidstone store catchment is the same as itself, so the correlation is 1

The Ealing store catchment is most unlike the Maidstone store catchment

1 means that the area has the same Acorn Profile

-1 means that the area has an opposite Acorn Profile
