Finding data within a catchment overlap

Do you want to see which customers fall under two overlapping store catchments? Or which Postcode Sectors are covered by a catchment overlap? This tip details finding the Postcode Sectors within your catchment overlap, but could be used to find customers or locations by substituting Postcode Sectors for other relevant data.

Note: To follow this tip, you must have already generated your drivetimes in InSite using the DriveTimes application. See the DriveTimes guide for more information on how to do this.

  • In the Data view, right click on the schema that contains your DriveTimes and select Open Browse

  • Select the Drivetimes which you want to analyse the overlap of

  • Right click | Browse Components | Individual

  • Under Postcode Geography click Postcode Sectors then click Ok

This will open two browses and show you the list of Postcode Sectors that fall within each Drivetime.

To get the Postcode Sectors within the overlap:

  • From one browse go to the Tagging ribbon

  • Click on Intersect From

  • Select the Tagged set of the other Browse (Since the browse that is active is Maidstone in this case, we will select Tunbridge Wells)

  • Click Ok

The browse will refresh showing the Postcode Sectors within the overlap of the two Drivetimes.

  • To store this as a component catchment click Store Tagging

  • Give it an appropriate Name and Description

  • Click Ok

  • You can find your stored Tagged Set under User Catchments | Postcode Sector Catchments

  • This catchment can then be analysed, mapped and used for reports, as with any other catchment
