Creating a Bespoke Catchment from a Browse
Component Catchments can be very useful if you want to analyse data or map a custom area around a specific location. This is a single catchment that is made up of multiple smaller component areas and allows you to create a more bespoke area. This tip will look how you can create these catchments from a Browse.
Open a browse on the layer that will be used as the base for your catchment area. Here, Postcode Sectors have been opened from the Postcode Geography Schema Group
Click on the Sectors required, holding down the Ctrl button to select more than one
Once the Postcode Sectors have been selected, right click, choose Tagging|Tag Selected

Now, store the tagging by choosing Tagging|Store Tagging
Choose the schema in which to store the study area

Choose Ok
Give the catchment a Name and Description and choose Ok
The newly created catchment area can now be used in several ways:
It can be opened in a Map to show the extent of the study area
It can be selected in Locator as either a base or an area to run a report on
It can be viewed in a Browse to analyse the data within the study area
The catchment can be created from any level of geography, but you may need to create a new schema to store them in. See the tip on creating new study area schemas.
