Setting the Default Expressions of a Schema

After importing a file into InSite, it is often the case that the data you have imported will have many columns that are not always useful or needed. In these cases, you may want to limit the columns that show every time you open a browse on the data, to only those that are useful, by setting them as the default columns. Avoid using linked columns from other schemas or derived expressions as default columns as they will slow down the opening of the browse. Saved browses are better for this.

NOTE: Default expressions can only be set for Schemas, not individual tables.

To set these columns to appear every time you open a Schema:

  • Begin by opening a browse on the Schema you want to change the settings for

  • Select the Add button within Column to open the Expression Builder – Edit Browse window

  • Alternatively, right click anywhere in the open browse and select Add Column

  • Edit the list of Selected Expressions, so that only the expressions that you want show in the list

  • Right click anywhere within Selected Expressions, then select Set Default Expressions and OK

  • This will set the defaults for any future browses on this schema unless reset
