Editing Polygons

Occasionally you may need to amend the shape of a polygon you have created. Any polygon can be edited.

Note: Once you have edited the polygon and saved it, the changes will be permanent. It’s a good idea to make a copy of it just in case something goes wrong, see the Copying DriveTimes tip. The process is the same for any shape.

To make the polygon editable:

  • Open your map and add on the Polygon layer you want to edit and set that layer as the focus layer

  • Double click inside the polygon. This will cause the boundary to turn red

  • Select the boundary and it will change to black

  • Right click on the boundary and select Make Polygon. This will add all the nodes that make up the boundary

To edit the shape:

  • Select one of the nodes (the small red squares) and drag to move it to a new position (when you click on it, it will turn black)

  • If you need to create a new node, click anywhere on the red line and a small black square outline will appear

  • If you need to delete a node, select it and press the Delete key on your keyboard, or right click on the node and select Delete. A window will appear saying Permanently delete items(s) from object? Select Yes.

  • You can select more than one node to delete at once by using the Ctrl button on your keyboard. This will turn them black.

  • When you have finished editing, right click anywhere on the map and select End Editing

  • Save editing changes? Select Yes
