Theme Templates

Theme Templates

In this tip we will look at the editing, importing, exporting and creation of Theme Templates.

Theme templates are a predefined set of colours and attributes that can be applied across multiple projects to either simple or thematic map layers. This will allow for more uniform map creation when multiple InSite users are providing mapping outputs to clients.

Creating themes

As well as creating themes within the thematic mapping dialogues, they can be created separately

  • Click on the Themes icon (top right of the mapping ribbon)

  • Click Create Theme

  • Give your Theme a name and description

  • Choose Next

  • Click on Add to add extra entries on the left – these are the number of colours in the them

  • Select each one in turn to edit the colour, change the fill and border properties as require

  • Alternatively, change the top one and the bottom one and apply Attribute Spread, Fill Colour

  • Click Create to create the theme

  • This can now be picked up when creating a thematic map.

Editing

An existing theme can be edited.

  • Choose Themes | Edit Theme

  • Select the theme to edit, choose Next

  • The options for changing colours/fills etc display

Exporting

Themes may be exported. This is useful to keep consistent colour use across users with separate InSite systems.

  • Choose Themes | Import/Export

  • Choose the theme to export, click Export…

  • Give the theme a name, the file extension is .xml

Importing

Themes that have been exported from another InSite system can be imported.

  • Click on the Import option, navigate to the file and choose OK
