Setting scale ranges for map layers
Setting scale ranges for simple and thematic maps
This tip will look at setting scale ranges for layers within a map. These layers can be either simple or thematic.
InSite uses scale ranges to define what layers are displayed at differing map scales. For example, a map could be customised to show points as circles when viewed at lower scales and then as diamonds at larger scales. Giving you greater control over the visual impact of your maps and allowing you to emphasise mapped data at different scales.

Right click on your map layer and choose Edit to open the Layer Wizard.
Choose Next. In the Classification window, select the Class you want to edit and then expand the Scale Ranges option.
From here, you can Add or Remove scale ranges. You can then input the specific scale range you want each layer class to be visible for on the map.

Click Next and change the layer details if necessary and then Next once more to the Themes window.
On this page, you can edit each scale range as you would a different range in a thematic layer.
Click Ok when you have created and edited the scale ranges and you can view them in Map properties, expanding the layer’s dropdown.
