Re-ordering a Legend

There are two ways of re-ordering the Legend depending on the type of layers that you have within the map.

Re-ordering separate layers:

• Click on the Map Properties Tab

• Select the Annotations Tab

• Expand the Legends group box and then the Legend that contains your data layers

• Click on the arrow to the left of Layers to expand

• Click on the layer you wish to move and drag either up or down

The Legend is ordered by where the layers sit within this list

Re-ordering thematic layers:

We will now look at how grouped layers like those within a thematic layer can be ordered. This example will use the occupation codes of our customers, the same method can be applied with any thematic layer.

• Open a General Map

• Create a thematic map

• Click on Map Properties

• Right click on your thematic map within the Layers tab and select Edit

• Click Next until you get to the screen below

• Click in the Description box and number the layers in the order you would like them displayed within the Legend

• Click OK

• Click on the Map Properties Tab

• Select the Annotations Tab

• Expand Legends group box and then the Legend that contains your data layers

• Expand the Layers Drop down and select your Thematic Layer

In Legend Info you can then use the sorting function to order your thematic layer by either ascending or descending
