Including a count of records for a thematic class in your legend

When creating a thematic layer, configuring the classes and balancing the distribution is a crucial step. When the map is complete, communicating the spread of records to end users through colour alone can be difficult. To make things easier, there is an option to add the count of records within each class to the legend.

• From the Data tab on the left hand pane, find the schema you want to create the thematic layer for then right click and select Add Map Layer…

• Continue through the wizard as usual, until you get to the final page (Layer Wizard – Themes)

• Select each of the ranges from the Theme box on the left

• Expand the Legend Item Text header on the right hand Properties section

• Under this header, you should see an option called Include Count. Tick this to add the count to the legend – the number of records within that thematic range

Note: It will appear as a number in brackets after the legend entry, and uses the same text properties

• Click Create when complete

• You will now see this added to the legend
